Starting a Freelance Job

At the start of 2020, we were all caught up with a lot of unfortunate events that affected the lives of many, not only here but also in other countries -- Taal volcano eruption, forest fires in Australia -- and now, we’re still dealing with Covid-19, the dreaded virus that started in China. Who would have thought that in our lifetime or at least in our generation, we will be experiencing an actual pandemic.

Because of the threat brought about by the virus and the pandemic, countries around the globe need to lock their doors from the world, our country included. We were initially put into 1 month of lockdown to mitigate the virus but with the increasing case, we were now on the 4th month and still ongoing. In that long time that our economy has stopped, many businesses, big and small, were badly hit and as an effect, many had lost their jobs. If you are one of those who are still able to work and receive a salary, you are very lucky!
Because of the situation, many companies, especially the BPOs, have transitioned to work from home set up, and this was something that has not been considered as possible before. Everything now is suddenly online - food, entertainment, essential needs, medical consultations and even education. There is no longer a need to go out because everything is now available online.
We now have more time at home. If before most of your time is spent on the road, travelling to and from the office, now we are able to save it as quality time at home. The first few weeks of the lockdown, we were all adjusting and trying to entertain ourselves via TikTok, or some would learn new skills or start the projects they’ve long been wanting to do. As for me, I realized that at a sudden course of event, our lives can change. Our job securities can be gone at a snap. More than surviving, we need to thrive and adapt to these changes. Now it's become more relevant how to continue work or your career without having to leave the comforts of your home. This is when I started looking for a freelance job. This is where I have come across Filipino Virtual Assistance who offers online courses to be able to land a freelance job or virtual assistant works.
At first, I was just observing the FVA Facebook page and I noticed that it has a lot of subscribers and already established a community and there are a lot of freelance courses being offered at a very low price and tried to compare this to other training pages and sites available. I looked at the details for each course and I thought, am I really getting all this much info at an affordable price? I couldn’t believe myself so I decided to enroll in the Freelancing Course.

Currently, I have already completed the Freelancing Course and our batch is just working on the completion of the portfolios for certification (here is the link to my portfolio). I could say that the training I had was very good. It was highly informative, concise and easy to follow. If you have limited or zero knowledge at all with freelancing, you will be properly educated. There are live coachings and recorded sessions that only last for less than an hour so it won’t eat up much of your time. Once you start working on the portfolio, this is where the learning happens. Most of the time, the assignments are challenging but you will be resourceful by searching and exploring in order to complete them. As for me, I really learned a lot and I also realized that I am already under-skilled and needs to upgrade to be at par with the current requirements. There are also bonus lessons at the end of the course and they also have an apprenticeship program. So if you already completed the course and feels not yet confident in applying for any freelance job, then they will help you through this program. They really wouldn’t leave you until you get that first client as a freelancer.
I must say that Filipino Virtual Assistance has really helped me because of their quality training. If you are looking into transitioning to freelance job and you feel this is the career that is meant for you, I highly recommend enrolling to FVA courses.
